Mirroring Sullivan

While I stayed in Chicago I developed a strong interest in the Sullivan’s architectural work; he worked with nature and he created geometric patterns to apply them in his buildings by different media. Part of my work is strongly related with this interest of nature and with the creation of patterns as powerful image which stays longer in mind. I was captivated by his building which used to be a departmental store Carson Pirie Scott, and by the time that I was there it was closing. So I respond to that with a memory of what it was my journey inside the building. I worked with a stencil which came from the frames of the windows; I recreate and transform this pattern as it was my journey, representing the voids and the shape of the spaces. The intervention in the gallery space ends with an organic transformation of what it was at the beginning a geometric pattern as the record of my visit in a Sullivan’s building.

Después de estar Chicago, generé un particular interés en el trabajo arquitectónico de Sullivan; él trabajo con la naturaleza y creo patrones geométricos que aplicó en sus edificios a través de diferentes medios. Parte de mi trabajo está fuertemente relacionada con este interés de la naturaleza y con la creación de patrones, como una imagen poderosa que se queda en la mente por mayor tiempo. Fui cautivada por su edificio que solía ser una tienda departamental Carson Pirie Scott, curiosamente en el tiempo en que la visite estaba por cerrar. Respondí a este hecho haciendo una memoria de lo que fue mi recorrido dentro del edificio. Trabaje con un esténcil que proviene de los marcos de las ventanas; recree y transforme este patrón tal como fue mi recorrido, representando los vacios y las formas del espacio. La intervención en la galería terminó con una transformación orgánica de lo que en un principio era un patrón geométrico como registro de mi visita en el edificio de Sullivan.
